Mary McDonald, MA, Associate Marriage and Family Therapist
I am a registered Marriage and Family Therapist Associate experienced in and passionate about treating people with disordered eating, body dissatisfaction, low self-esteem, sexual and/or childhood abuse, and gender-related issues. I use a feminist, trauma-informed approach and also strive to base treatment around the unique needs of individual clients. I provide a safe space for all backgrounds and am LGBTQ+ affirming.
As a depth-oriented psychotherapist, I am trained to actively listen to what is voiced, but also to attune to what gets hidden beneath the surface. This deeper level is often where emotional wounds that create suffering are found. By attuning to body experience, the images that exist in the imagination, or behavior patterns, for example, a path towards better understanding suffering and healing old wounds may exist.
I am committed to and engaged with my clients on the therapeutic journey and honor their inner wisdom. I strive to create a trusting relationship in the container of the therapy room, one where the client and I both experience a strong connection to one another.
