Play Therapy
We enjoy working with children as young as age 6. We understand that young children do not respond well to traditional “talk therapy” and have found that therapy is much more successful when we speak through their language of play and art. We use elements of play therapy and art therapy to help kids express their emotions regarding whatever struggles they are facing and then work with their family system to create a plan for change. We work collaboratively with families to create goals for overcoming the problem based on both what the child has expressed to us individually and the concerns of the parents. Although we often meet with the child individually for sessions, therapy with young children always includes the parents and therefore we occasionally include joint parent-child or family sessions into the treatment plan. At times we will meet individually with parents for parenting support and to address any issues within the overall family system.
