Play Therapy
I enjoy working with children as young as age 5. I understand that young children do not respond well to traditional “talk therapy” and have found that therapy is much more successful when I speak through their language of play and art. I use elements of play therapy and art therapy to help kids express their emotions regarding whatever struggles they are facing and then work with their family system to create a plan for change. I work collaboratively with families to create goals for overcoming the problem based on both what the child has expressed to me individually and the concerns of the parents. Although I often meet with the child individually for sessions, therapy with young children always includes the parents and therefore I occasionally include joint parent-child or family sessions into the treatment plan. At times I will meet individually with parents for parenting support and to address any issues within the overall family system.
